4-lane roads on BOT

Hyderabad, Date: 25.09.2008
HYDERABAD: The ANDHRAPRADESH Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today accepted in principle the proposal to start a 4-lane road on BOT terms from NH-7-Nizamabad to Jagayyapet via Jagtial, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam etc. and lastly connecting Vijayawada and Machilipatnam Port. This is to connect the North Telangana districts with the ports and develop industrial corridor along the 4-lane road. This decision was taken to develop the North Telangana districts which were under the influence of Naxalites and there could not be much industrialization of these districts. The Chief Minister approved the proposal and directed the R&B department to immediately prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of the road on BOT terms. The APIIC will foot the bill for the preparation of the DPR.
The Chief Minister YSR directed that top priority should be given to maintenance, repair and resurfacing of damaged roads, particularly that were damaged in the recent rains. He said funds will not be a problem as far as resurfacing and repair of the roads are concerned. The Chief Minister also approved the proposal for the 4-lane elevated Expressway from Parade Grounds to Shamirpet, over 20km (part of the Rajiv Rahadari) on BOT terms. This decision was taken since widening of the road would be difficult due to land acquisition problems particularly since Military lands are involved. He also approved the proposal for the 4-lane widening of Rajiv Rahadari up to Karimnagar. The Chief Minister was informed that all other road resurfacing works etc are in progress.
R&B Minister T Jeevan Reddy, Principal Secretary, R&B, T Chatterjee, Principal Secretary, Finance, I V R Krishna Rao, Engineer-in-Chief, R&B, K Siva Reddy and MD, A.P. Road Development Corporation, Mr B. Rajagopal Reddy and other officials attended the meeting
