DS rules out early elections

DS rules out early elections

Hyderabad, Oct. 4: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, Mr D. Srinivas, on Saturday ruled out early Assembly elections. The PCC chief said there was no need for the Congress government in the state to advance the elections, scheduled for April-May next year.
"I don’t know who is spreading this rumour. If Parliament elections are held in February-March it cannot be constructed as early elections," he said. When his attention was drawn to a news report quoting the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, on the possibility of elections in February, he said, "If the CM has made that statement, you better ask him.."
He added, "Why should we have early polls? We are on a strong wicket. I do not see early Assembly polls." Refuting differences between him and the Chief Minister, he did not find anything wrong in Dr Reddy conducting constituency-wise reviews with party leaders and MLAs.
"I also speak to party leaders. There is nothing wrong," he said. "Doubts have been raised because Chief Minister spoke to select people." Mr Srinivas admitted there were some issues which needed to be addressed including price rise and fertilisers.
