Pranahita-Chevella project was taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 38,500 crore which would provide water to 16.50 lakh acres in upland areas of Karimnagar, Adilabad, Medak, Nizamabad, Nalgonda Warangal, Hydarabad and Rangareddy districts.
The Chief Minister today laid the second foundation stone for Pranahita- Chevella Srujala Sravanti project and inaugurated 400 KV substation at Kudakandla village of Gajwel mandal in Medak district.
Addressing a public meeting later he dismissed the doubts expressed by the Opposition over the completion of the project. He said that Telangana farmers’ lifestyle would be changed once the project was completed and they would compete with the farmers in coastal Andhra.
He said that around 5.19 lakh acres would be irrigated in Medak district alone through the project.
He called upon the masses to question the Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu for his promises to implement populist schemes like freerice, which were shleved by Naidu himself. He said the TDP spent only Rs 7,000 crore during 1999-2004 on irrigation projects whereas, his Government spent around Rs 46,000 crore during the last four years.
The Chief Minister criticised the PRP president Chiranjeevi saying that politics and service to the people is not like acting in a movie. ``The film hero did nothing to his native village in the past 30 years. Now, he says that he is ready to serve eight crore people of the State. People will not be carried away by these statements,’’ the Chief Minister remarked.
