YSR'S golden assurance Will tell cops not to ‘bother’ golds
Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy today assured goldsmiths he would see to it that the police would not bother them over petty matters.
He was addressing a conference organised by the Andhra Pradesh Goldsmith’s Federation at the Gandhi Bhavan here. A committee would be constituted with the Home Minister, Social Welfare Minister and representatives of the Goldsmith’s Federation as members to look into the problems of the community and come up with solutions, he said.
Youth from the goldsmith community would be trained at the gems and jewellery park and would be provided employment, the chief minister added, and said efforts were on to set up a corporation for goldsmiths which would disburse loans to the tune of Rs 5 lakh to 10 lakh at 25 paise interest. He urged them to form groups like DWACRA.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the Goldsmiths Federation, J Sanjeeva Rao complained of “harassment’’ of goldsmiths by the police and urged the latter to inform members of the community before arresting any goldsmith.
