lagadapati on fost for united andhra
Moved by the death of innocent people, I have resigned from Parliament and joined the people’s movement for keeping the State united,’’ Lagadapati Rajagopal has said.
Speaking to mediapersons before going on fast at Swaraj Maidan here today, he said leaders of various political parties should come out openly with their stand on United Andhra Pradesh. ``Political leaders would always play safe while innocent people immolated themselves for a noble cause,’’ he noted and called for a change in the thinking of the leaders of all political parties.
He expressed hope that Praja Rajyam leader Chiranjeevi would understand people’s feelings and join hands with the people in support of United Andhra Pradesh. He also appealed to TDP president Chandrababu Naidu and CPI leader K Narayana and others to stand by the people in this hour of crisis.
Praising YSR as `Okka Magadu’, he said the political confusion arose in the State due to absence of YS Rajasekhara Reddy who was successful in handling separatist forces during his rule. YSR was instrumental in securing `classical’ status to the Telugu language, he said.
Rajagopal said he had appealed to Chief Minister K Rosaiah to convene the Assembly and expressed confidence that any resolution seeking bifurcation of State would be defeated by 225 votes.
The people’s movement would be intensified in all districts of the State, he announced and left for the PWD Grounds to sit on hunger strike.
