Over 70% polling in Kadapa, 81% in Pulivendula bypolls

Around 70 per cent polling was reported in the bypoll held for Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, where Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is seeking re-election.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal told reporters tonight that 69.50 per cent of votes were polled till the end of polling at 5 pm.

The number is likely to go up as voters were waiting in queues at several polling stations even at 5 pm, he said.

The percentage of polling in Pulivendula Assembly constituency, where Jagan's mother Vijayalakshmi and his uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy (Congress) crossed swords, was 81 per cent, he said.

Polling was peaceful barring stray incidents, state DGP K Aravinda Rao said.

Police fired in the air at Siddareddigari Palle village in Pulivendula segment to disperse a crowd when supporters of Congress and YSR Congress Party clashed with each other and resorted to stone pelting about half a kilometre away from the polling station, Rao said.
