AP govt to name pension scheme for women after YSR
Hyderabad, Sep 23 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government today said it will name its prestigious scheme that envisages monthly pension for one crore women after late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and launch the programme on November 1."It was late YSR's strong wish to provide monthly pension to one crore women. We have decided to name the 'Abhaya Hastam' (benevolent hand) scheme after him. Accordingly, the scheme will be known as 'YSR Abhaya Hastam'," Rural Development Minister V Vasant Kumar told reporters.Under the scheme, self-help group women would be enrolled as members and certain amount will be collected from them as members' contribution, he said.The contribution amount and the pension given to the women varies with the age of the members, Vasant Kumar said, adding financial assistance would be given to the members in case of death.
