KADAPA: Actor couple Rajasekhar and Jeevitha have demanded that the Congress high command appoint Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy as chief minister as per the wish of eight crore people of the State.
The couple visited YSR Ghat at Idupulapaya today and paid homage to the former chief minister.
Later, they met Jagan and extended their support to him. Interacting with mediapersons, they said Jagan should be made chief minister to continue the development programmes and welfare schemes initiated by his father with more vigour. Any further delay in appointment of Jagan as successor to YSR would hurt the sentiment of people of the State, they said.
Rajasekhar said the Congress MLAs and MPs should bring pressure on the party high command in this regard. They should quit their posts, if the high command failed to concede their demand.
Jeevitha and Rajasekhar found fault with some senior Congress leaders for making provocative statements on the issue of YSR successor as it was causing confusion among the party cadres. In the given circumstances, the Congress need not launch a membership drive.
People on their own would join the Congress, if Jagan was made chief minister, they said.
Jeevitha and Rajasekhar, who are producing a film on YSR, said it would portray the life of former chief minister from his childhood to the tragic demise. The film would be completed on a priority basis and it would be released in all languages, the couple said.
Later, they met Congress activists who were on relay hunger strike at the municipal corporation office seeking chief ministership for Jagan, and extended their support to the stir.
Government Chief Whip Bhatti Vikramarka also visited YSR Ghat and paid homage to the former chief minister. He was accompanied by MLAs Ramakrishna, T Narasimhulu, Ravi, Satish, Sivaprakash Reddy and former speaker A Eswar Reddy. Later, they met the Kadapa MP.
Vikramarka said the Congress high command would take a right decision at a right time on the leadership issue.
