YSR’s wife all set to be elected unopposed
KADAPA: YS Vijayalakshmi is the new MLA of Pulivendula, albeit unofficially, with no other person filing nomination Wednesday, which happens to be the last day for filing papers for Pulivendula Assembly constituency byelection.
With the untimely demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash in Nallamalla forests, the byelections for Pulivendula became imminent.
On the directions of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Vijayalakshmi, wife of the departed leader, filed her nominations on Tuesday as the Congress Party nominee.
With TDP, PRP, Left Parties and Lok Satta Party deciding not to field their candidates in the by-election and with no independent candidate opting to contest, election of Vijayalakshmi had become a formality. Lok Satta Party, which is against the dynastic rule, had tried to field a candidate against Vijayalakshmi, but it could not get a candidate to contest till the last minute.
Tomorrow being the day for scrutiny and December 5 being the last date for withdrawal of nominations, official announcement of her unanimous election will be made on December 5.
Vijayalakshmi had not only become the first woman to represent Pulivendula Assembly constituency, which can be described as Congress bastion, but also become the first woman to have won unanimously in Rayalaseema Region.
