YSR inaugurates a mega medical camp

WARANGAL: Telangana region witnessed unprecedented development during the last four years while more universities and colleges were set up in backward and remote districts, said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Monday.
Inaugurating a mega medical camp and formally launching the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme in district here on Monday, Dr. Y.S.R.Reddy said those who were speaking about Telangana expressed doubts over Devadula project. “We did it and everybody saw water flowing into Dharmasagar tank,” he pointed out.
Dr. Y.S.R.Reddy said more polytechnic colleges were set up in backward Mahabubnagar, one IIIT and medical college in remote Adilabad district and seven universities in Telangana region covering Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts. MGM Hospital in Warangal and other government hospitals were being strengthening recruiting personnel and by adding more facilities, he said.
On the irrigation front, Telangana got due priority and 24 lakh acres of new ayacut is being developed utilising the Godavari waters.
Tribals in the Agency areas were conferred rights on forest land. Each family would get 10 acre of land through Forest Rights Act. “Do not believe in what other people say. Extend your support to Congress party and you will receive more benefits,” he said making light of TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu’s ‘Mee Kosam’ tour.
“They (TDP and others) say they are for poor. What did they do when they are in power? Do not get carried away by what they say,” Dr. Reddy told the cheering crowds at the mega medical camp.
MrYS Rajasekhara Reddy listed out the initiatives taken by the State and Central governments - such as waiver of power dues, bank loans, pensions, housing, Arogya Sri. He said 108 services are proving to be a boon to the poor and following the success, it was decided to launch 104 services in rural areas.
“The mobile medical van will reach to the villages which are beyond three kilometres from the PHC. It will stay put and carry out blood tests and other services for the whole day. Medicines will be distributed free until next visit of the van,” Dr. Reddy explained.
Ministers – Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Botsa Satyanarayana, G. Aruna Kumari and D.S. Redya Naik, MLAs K. Surekha and B. Saraiah, MLC Pulla Padmavathi and others were present.
Meanwhile, Dr.YSR Reddy said that the State government is keen to strengthen hospitals rather than adding more bed strength to the existing ones.
YSR clarified that there is no use in adding beds to the hospitals without providing adequate staff and adding facilities.
The Andhrapradesh government has also decided to recruit doctors and para-medical staff and provide laboratory and other facilities at the existing government hospitals, he said.
He was responding to the request by Shayamapet legislator K. Surekha and Hanamkonda Member of Parliament B. Vinod Kumar to consider upgrading the government hospital at Parkal from 30 bed to 100 bed hospital.
Dr.ysrajasekhara Reddy during his two-hour visit to the district laid foundations to two projects and inaugurated a road overbridge and Rajiv Gruhakalpa here on Monday.
