“Seepage” villages set to get rehabilitation benefit

HYDERABAD: Water impounded in Bhima and Sangambanda projects in Mahabubnagar district have surfaced at Bhodpur and Neredgaon respectively by way of seepage, necessitating resettlement and rehabilitation (R & R) programme for these villages too.
After coming to know about this from D. Vittal Rao, MP and C. Rammohan Reddy, MLA, Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah has asked irrigation officials to ascertain the problem by undertaking a field study at the villages and submit a report in 10 days.
He said the government would take a decision to shift the inhabitants of these villages with provision for R & R after receiving the report.
A state-level committee would be formed headed by a technical experts to go into seepage problems at villages lying in the vicinity of the projects, if any. Reviewing land acquisition issues of Yellampalli project earlier along with Collectors of Karimanagar and Adilabad districts, the Minister asked officials to acquire the rest of the land coming under the project under a time-bound programme.
