YSR Banking On Praja Kutami

Ysr Banking On Praja Kutami
HYDERABAD: Making light of reports of a "grand alliance" between Opposition parties, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy is understood to have claimed that "praja kutami" would see Congress retain power in the next elections.
Intervening in a discussion on alliances between Opposition parties at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the chief minister reportedly said he was not worried about Opposition parties making efforts to forge a "mahakutami" against Congress so long as the party enjoyed "praja kutami".
He indicated that the Congress would go it alone in the next elections and that there was no question of seeking truck with any party. The chief minister, however, said that if any party came forward to work with Congress in the next elections, they were welcome.
Reddy urged ministers to start a campaign to highlight the developmental and welfare programmes launched by the government.
This would yield positive results in the elections, he said.
The Cabinet expressed happiness over the success of the recent public meetings at Tirupati and Anantapur, and the chief minister said he was looking forward to five public meetings — at Adilabad, Kadapa, Khammam or Warangal, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
The Adilabad meeting will have a youth focus and is likely to be addressed by AICC general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi, while the others would be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
As for other matters, the Cabinet has decided to consider disciplinary action against lax anganwadi ayas in ICDS projects.
Education Minister N Rajyalakshmi suggested entrusting ICDS supervisors with the responsibility of taking action against the erring ayas but the other ministers were opposed to this.
Finally, the chief minister asked principal secretary to the Women and Child Welfare Department Chaya Ratan to examine whether it would be better to delegate the said powers to RDOs.
The Cabinet discussed the issue at length as taking action against the anganwadi ayas would have serious political ramifications
