YSR asks banks to achieve Rs 14,000-cr farm loan target by Aug

Hyderabad, Aug 24 Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has asked bankers to complete disbursement of farm loans by the end of this month and achieve the full target of Rs 14,000 crore for the ongoing Kharif season. He thanked the bankers for sanctioning agriculture loans to the tune of Rs 7,019 crore by August 15. Reddy held a review on crop loan disbursal with bankers in the backdrop of growing demand for declaring most parts of AP as drought-hit.The Chief Minister has been stating that his government was not officially declaring the state as drought-hit only because farm loans were not disbursed to farmers as per the Kharif target. Today, Reddy directed the Revenue Department officials to provide banks with comprehensive details of land ownership so that banks could identify eligible farmers for sanctioning of loans. He asked the revenue officials to weed out fake pattadar passbooks (title documents). The Chief Minister said rainfall deficit touched 56 per cent so far this season and delayed rains would help only a section of the farmers who took up alternative crops."This is the time that we all should be supporting the farmers, who are in distress, to the fullest. Banks should provide both short-term and long-term credit to farmers. As far as agricultural output is concerned, Andhra Pradesh is leading all other states in the country and this has become possible only due to good credit outflow to the farm sector," the Chief Minister noted. .
