Jagan skips Chittoor tour

The YSR Congress president, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was forced to cancel his visit to Chittoor on Sunday, due to politically sensitive atmosphere there, restricting his visit to Tirupati only.

On his arrival at Renigunta airport, Mr Jagan will go to the residence of the Puthalapattu MLA, Mr P. Ravi, at Tirupati and bless his daughter, whose betrothal will be held on Monday. Later, he will attend the marriage of the daughter of the YSRC district convener, Mr K. Narayanaswamy. He will fly to Hyderabad in the afternoon. Mr Jagan will strictly avoid the media as he did on November 5, when he came for the marriage function of his cousin, Y.S. Sumadhur Reddy.

The party cadre were seen busy erecting the flexes and welcome banners in the town.

Earlier, the itinerary of Mr Jagan included a visit to Chittoor town, where he was expected to visit the houses of the Congress leader, Mr J. Srinivasulu, YSRC Chittoor in-charge, Mr A.S. Manohar, and Mr D.K. Badrinarayana, brother of former TTD Trust Board chairman, Mr D.K. Adikesavulu Naidu, to bless their sons who were married recently.

The much-publicised programme raised many an eyebrow in the political circles of the district. There were speculations that Mr Srinivasulu would join the YSRC, and that the DK group had tilted towards the party.

Moreover, the former Chittoor MP and YSRC leader, Mr M. Gnanendra Reddy, was said to have expressed displeasure at non-inclusion of his residence in Mr Jagan’s visit to Chittoor.

Party sources observed that by cancelling his trip to Chittoor, Mr Jagan indicated that he does not want to trouble the sitting Congress MLA, Mr C.K. Babu’s association with the YSR family; and that the latter's entry into the YSRC is not ruled out in the longer run.

In this backdrop, the cancellation of Jagan’s visit to Chittoor is a strategic move, to avoid all political embarrassment.
