Though the YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is scheduled to visit Chittoor on a private visit on November 13, it has brought in much political curiosity in the party cadre.
Though the YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is scheduled to visit Chittoor on a private visit on November 13, it has brought in much political curiosity in the party cadre.
Party sources said that Mr Jagan is trying to rope in the local Congress leader, Mr Jangalapalle Srinivasulu, into party in a move to counter the might of the Chittoor Congress MLA, Mr C.K. Babu, as he feels that the influence of the present YSRC town convener, Mr A.S. Manohar, is not sufficient for the task.
Mr Manohar, the former Chittoor MLA and former municipal chairman, joined the YSRC, a couple of months ago, leaving the Telugu Desam. Before his entry, Mr Jagan tried for Mr Srinivasulu, who lost to Mr C.K. Babu by a narrow margin as the Praja Rajyam candidate in the 2009 elections. But, the move did not materialise then.
Now, there are reports that Mr Srinivasulu will join the YSRC before the Odarpu Yatra in the district.
Sources said that Mr Jagan is impressed with Mr Srinivasulu’s dominant sway with the Balija community, which accounts for nearly 35 per cent in urban areas and more than 30 per cent in rural areas of the district.
The party leadership understands that it is risky to depend on Mr Manohar with his influence is limited to a few pockets in Chittoor town. He is widely considered a soft-natured person, hesitant to tackle Mr C.K. Babu.
In this backdrop, Mr Manohar is said to have been depressed with Mr Jagan’s move to rope in the Congress leader into the party.
During his visit to Chittoor, Mr Jagan will be visiting the residences of Mr Srinivasulu and bless his newly-wed son. He will also be visiting Mr Manohar house to bless his son, whose marriage is slated on Monday.
Earlier, the same day, Mr Jagan will attend the marriage of the daughter of the district party convener, Mr K. Nararyana Swamy.
